Boxing Notes

In his recent fight with Riddick Bowe, Andrew Golota was disqualified,
AGAIN. Golota has been known to either bite, headbutt or hit low on at
least four seperate occasions. Golota is a great fighter, but he's not
very intelligent and he really has to work on those body shots. After the
fight, Golota was actually seen saying "I stupid, I stupid, I stupid,"
while hitting himself in the head.

Ray Mercer, the Heavyweight who just can't seem to win, pulled off a big one on the Bowe-Golota II undercard. Mercer won a tough fight, against Former 2-Time Heavyweight Champion Tim Witherspoon, by unaminous decision Actually, he's never had an easy fight against anyone good (and even some not so good ones). He fought tough and close fights with Lennox Lewis, Evander Holyfield, Tommy Morrison, Bert Cooper, Franceso Damiani, Jesse Fergusion twice, Larry Holmes, Marion Wilson and most recently, Tim Witherspoon.

Courage Tshabalaba, the highly touted African Heavyweight, got Knocked Out in the second round by a flabby, 278 lb. Brian "Bam Bam" Scott. This was Brian Scott's first fight since May 2, 1995. Athough he only has three losses, all of them were by knockout. In one of them, he was KO'd in the second round by the horrible cuban, Jorge Luis Gonzalez.

Former WBC Heavyweight Champion Oliver McCall, was brought up on drug possesion charges for the third time this year. McCall was given 18 months probation. Lucky for McCall, the three-strike system wasn't passed.

Rocky Balboa, the lightweight journeyman, was knocked out again. This time by Rafael Ruelas. You would think that if a fighter changed his first name to "Rocky" in order to fit the movie character's name, he would at least be able to take a punch.

It's amazing what a bald, fat man with a funny name can accomplish. Butterbean, a former mobile home builder and Toughman contestant, has become a celebrity around the world. Right now, the Bean is making $10-25,000 per fight against guys even worse than he is. It's amazing how widespread the Bean phenomenom has gone. At a recent amateur show, I saw a short, fat junior who went by the name "Kidney Bean". There was also another simialarity between these two, their incredible lack of skills.
