The 5

Most Bizarre Fights so far this Year.

1:Lennox Lewis-Oliver McCall IIThis fight seemed pretty normal going in and it was...till the end of the third round. At that point, McCall began to wander aimlessly around the ring. And in the fourth, McCall just walked around the ring and offered no resistance. After the fourth, referee Mills Lane led a sobbing McCall back to his corner. When McCall continued not to fight in the fifth, Lane stopped the fight.
2:Evander Holyfield-Mike Tyson IIEveryone had their own opinion about this fight. Most everybody knew the fight wasn't going the distance, but nobody suspected what would happen. At the end of the third round(and it was an exciting fight up till then), Tyson viciously bit off a chunk of Holyfield's ear. As Holyfield was jumping around in astonishment, Tyson ran over and pushed him. After a short break and two points being deducted from Tyson, Mike bit Evander AGAIN(in the other ear). Tyson was disqualified soon thereafter and a mini-riot broke out. Tyson tried to get to Holyfield and was swinging at security guards and pandemonium broke out in the MGM Grand.
3:Roy Jones-Montell Griffin INow this was supposed to be a tough fight for Jones, but not this tough. Throughout the fight, Griffin frustrated Jones with his style. Then as Jones started to build momentum, it appeared that he was well on his way to victory. Jones was having his best round in the 9th. He hurt Griffin pretty bad and Montell took a knee. Then it happened! Jones threw two more punches, a right hook and a left hook. The second landed flush and(although there may have been a little acting) Griffin fell to the canvas and he couldn't continue. Roy Jones, the undefeated, three division champion who's widely regarded as the Best Pound-for-Pound boxer today, had just been disqualified.
4:Buster Douglas-Louis MonacoThis was supposed to be another easy step on the comeback trail for Douglas. Little did anyone know, Monaco had three good wins(over Dokes, McBride and McNeeley) prior to this fight. The first(and only) round was a feeling-out round for Douglas. Buster has been known to be a slow starter and it showed. So he came out flicking his jab and he was landing. Towards the end of the round, Monaco landed a big, right hand that momentarily stunned Douglas. But as the round ended, Douglas was on the ropes and the USA Network went to a commerical. When they came back, they announced, "Douglas has been knocked down!" About 2-3 seconds after the bell, Douglas was hit by a crushing right hand and since the referee was in front of him, he didn't see it coming. It also appeared that when Douglas fell, he hurt his leg because he was limping back to his corner. He couldn't continue after 5 minutes and Monaco was disqualified. It was the right call, but it was still a very bizarre fight.
5:Rocky Gannon-Dominic Carter IAlthough this was not a major fight, it still had a bizarre ending. Both of these fighters are, at best, journeyman fighters, but Gannon is a fan-favorite. As the fight started, immediately Gannon landed and floored Carter. Carter got up and the rest of the round resembled a bad toughman fight. Both fighters were landing everything they threw and before long, Gannon was down and hurt. He got up and Carter drove him flailing into the ropes. Gannon was clearly hurt and when Carter snapped his head back, the referee stopped the fight. Carter won a minor upset by stopping Gannon in the first round. But, the referee's choice in stopping the fight was controversial and many people were upset.
